Creating a dream Defender 110

If you follow us on social media, you’ll probably have heard about the “Perfect 110” that our very own Chief Engineering Chimp, Chris, built in just 6 weeks for the front Cover of Land Rover Monthly (70% of it was done in 3 weeks between the hours of 3pm and 3am due to work commitments running our OREsome little business!)

Chris had been daily driving a Ford Ranger pick-up, much to the amusement of the guys in the workshop, for little over 2 years before he thought it time to finally build his dream Defender.

Perfecting the build with OREprototypes

Most sensible people would have sat back with a cold beer to admire the workmanship and finish of their truck after months of toil- but not Chris. Chris had not fulfilled his original vision for the truck, and put some pressure on the guys at HQ to finish some upcoming products early to install.

The original Defender was fitted with the usual chequer-plate Wingtops, which spoke to Chris’ practical side but didn’t make the grade for his new truck due to their clunky appearance. So in true ORE style, Chris engineered a new style of Aluminium wingtop protector and grilles using our military-style anti-slip coating system.

Chris also opted to install our brand new Defender Snow Cowl, which fit perfectly with the Wingtop protectors due to having the same bolt holes. Another new product Chris opted to fit was our Defender Grille kit (side grille) which provides a consistent aesthetic with our wingtops for the side of your Defender.

Of course Chris also decked out the truck with our popular LED headlights, our ORE_iginal wheel carrierDefender steering guard, our Straight Winch Bumper with DRLs & T1000 Military Spec WinchLTPRTZ reverse lights and of course; both our pencil and combo beam light bars.

Photoshoot with Alisdair

After the build began to come to an end, Chris got a little ahead of himself and took on the lease for a new premises – roughly 7x the size of the original HQ!

Between finishing the truck, moving into our new unit and planning the upcoming Land Rover shows – Chris & Alisdair snuck off into the Peak District for the day to get the all-important photos for the cover and article in LRM. Luckily enough the weather held off and the guys landed back in the pub at 10pm for a celebratory pint! The pair spent a foggy Friday afternoon hooning around some of the best driving roads the Midlands has to offer, and I’m sure you’ll agree the results from their shoot have been worth it!

Publication in the magazine

Once the photoshoot was complete, the photos edited and the article masterfully written, the boffins at LRM compiled all of the best content into a monster 15-page article featured within the centre of the magazine (PDF download available below). We even took out a full page advert directly after the article to show off some of the OREsome products featured on the truck! The truck was finally unveiled at the Billing Offroad Show in 2022 where Chris’ took to the stage for a full Q&A with the LRM team.
